Inspired Play Activity (May 2018)
The monthly theme for May 2018 was nature-centered and children learn new words such as flower, roots, yard, leaves, water.
Once they memorized these words, they proved to be able to use them in a practical context during the inspired play activity.
First we took them outside and let them observe the nature that surrounds the school building: trees, grass, flowers, and even Japanese oranges! We talked about plants and colors.
Then they took their time to collect some flowers and leaves and put them in their plastic cups.
Once we were back into the classroom, children found vases on the tables containing more flowers. The vases were transparent so they can observe the plant as a whole (from flower to roots).
They had to draw pictures of these provocations using crayons. However they were free to use any color they liked and integrate the picture with other elements using their imagination. Some of them even decided to make a portrait of Eugene, the English teacher!
The result was, as you can see, extraordinarily colorful and vibrant.
